Laura's Story

My husband and I love to take our two children to the river. We are also very involved with my son’s soccer team and enjoy attending his games as a family.

We decided our family was complete and I was looking at different birth control options. I had tried 2 different types of IUD’s but I had spotting and irregular bleeding with both. I really wanted something permanent that I wouldn’t have to think about anymore. I started thinking about a tubal ligation, but I needed to be available for my family and I didn’t want to take the time to recover from surgery. And I really didn’t want the pain from incisions! My doctor told me about Essure and I decided it sounded perfect for me.

I had the Essure procedure performed in an out-patient facility and it was fast and convenient. I took ibuprofen, for the mild cramping I had following the procedure, and that night I went to dinner with my husband. The following day I was back to my normal self and attended a baseball game feeling great.

At the 3 month follow-up HSG test, I made sure my radiologist understood he was performing a test for Essure and not for infertility. By following the Essure protocol for an HSG, the test went very smoothly and I had no pain. The radiologist showed me the micro-inserts were in place and that the tubes were blocked. I was happy that I couldn’t get pregnant anymore.

The whole Essure experience was very positive for me. I was so glad that I didn’t have to inconvenience my family by being on bed rest. It felt great to be able to move around and do things without hurting myself. It’s the best I have every felt. I love it!
